Makor ("Makor," "we," "our," or "us") helps students prepare for JAMB, WAEC, and NECO exams through practice questions, mock exams, and progress tracking. This policy explains what information we collect when you use Makor — on the web, and in our Android and iOS apps — why we collect it, and what choices you have.

Information we collect automatically as you use Makor
- Study activity — practice sessions completed, questions answered, scores per subject, time spent studying, study streaks, bookmarked questions, notes you write on questions, spaced-repetition review history, and Question of the Day answers
- Achievements and progress — badges earned, mastery ratings per subject, mock exam results
- Account status — your plan (trial, Basic, Pro, or school bulk plan) and its expiry date
- Device and technical information — IP address, device type, operating system, and general app usage, collected automatically by the services described in Section 3
- Push notification token — if you enable notifications, so we can send you study reminders and exam countdown alerts
02 How we use your information
- To create and maintain your account, and let you sign in across devices
- To track your study progress, calculate your subject ratings, and personalize your study plan and recommendations
- To show you leaderboards, achievements, and streaks
- To send you study reminders, exam countdown alerts, and account or subscription notices
- To provide customer support when you contact us
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our terms
- To understand how Makor is used, so we can fix problems and improve the app
We do not use your study data to sell you unrelated advertising, and we do not sell your personal information to third parties.
03 Third-party services we use
Makor is built on Google Firebase. When you use Makor, the following Firebase/Google services process your data on our behalf, under their own security and privacy commitments:
- Firebase Authentication — manages sign-in, including Google Sign-In if you choose that option
- Cloud Firestore — stores your account, study activity, and progress data
- Firebase Cloud Storage — stores images used in questions and diagrams
- Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivers push notifications if you enable them
- Firebase Hosting — serves the Makor website

04 Payments
When you subscribe to a paid plan, your payment is handled entirely by our payment processor(Paystack). Makor never receives or stores your card number, bank account details, or other payment credentials — we only receive confirmation that a payment was made, along with the plan you purchased.
06 Children's privacy
Makor is built for students preparing for JAMB, WAEC, and NECO — many of our users are secondary school students, and some are under 13. We take this seriously:
- We only collect the information described in Section 1 that's needed to provide the study features of the app
- We do not run behavioral advertising or sell children's data
- Our parent share code feature lets a parent or guardian link to their child's account to follow their study progress
- If you're a parent or guardian and want to review, update, or delete your child's information, contact us using the details in Section 12 — we'll respond promptly
07 Data retention
We keep your account and study data for as long as your account is active, so your progress is there whenever you come back. If you delete your account, we delete your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we're required to keep certain records for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes.
08 Security
We use industry-standard security practices provided by Firebase, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) between your device and our servers, and access-controlled databases. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.
09 Your rights and choices
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act and general good practice, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information — most of this you can update yourself in Settings
- Delete your account and associated personal data
- Withdraw consent for optional features, like push notifications, at any time in your device or app settings
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 12.
11 Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as Makor grows or as required by law. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and where appropriate, notify you directly through the app.
